March 28, 2023: Winemaker Dinner #1
The first 2023 winemaker dinner features Tom Garrett, one of our members. He is the grandson of Gunther Detert, a Cal Vintage Charter Member and long-time President. The Detert wines are crafted by Tom, one of the three great-grandsons behind the Detert label. He is also the winemaker and an owner of Dakota Shy Winery in St. Helena. The French Club is creating a delicious menu to pair perfectly with some of Tom’s highly rated and outstanding Cabernet Francs and Cabernet Sauvignons.

April 29, 2023: UC Davis Trip
Join us for a special event with our partners at UC Davis. We will have a private tour of the Library’s Archives and Special Collections, featuring its world-famous food and wine book collection. A highlight of the tour will be the Cal Vintage Wine Society's archive, which includes early Cal Vintage dinner menus, notes on the founding members, and more. We will then enjoy a private tour of the Teaching and Research Winery, part of the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science. The event will close with lunch in the Good Life Garden, featuring food and wine inspired by noteworthy events from Cal Vintage’s early years.

June 6, 2023: Winemaker Dinner #2
Enjoy our second in a series of winemaker dinners of 2023. We'll dine at the French Club with the owners/winemakers from Small Vines, Paul & Kathryn Sloan. They have been producing chardonnays and pinot noirs with great intensity, vibrant acidity, and excellent balance for over 20 years in West Sonoma. Their highly allocated wines regularly receive 90+ point scores from Robert Parker, James Suckling, and Wine Spectator. Paul will talk about his approach to winemaking, including his focus on terroir, sustainability, organic farming practices, and Grand Cru-level attention to detail.
